The Measuring Stepping and Walking study aims to measure steps in infant and toddlers with Down syndrome who are learning to walk. Your child's steps will be recorded during everyday activities at home as they progress from cruising, walking while holding on to furniture or a wall for support to independently walking.
Who can participate in this study?
Infants and toddlers with Down syndrome who can cruise at least 5 steps. Cruising means walking sideways holding on to furniture for support for at least 5 steps.
Who cannot participate?
Children who have been able to walk at least 10 steps independently for 3 months or longer
Where does this study take place?
In participating families' homes in Los Angeles, California
What activities are involved in this study?
- 90 minute home visits to observe your child's play and movement while they wear step-counting sensors on their ankles.
- One week of wearing the sensors at home during their usual daily activities.
What language does this study support?
English and Spanish
