Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea with Personalized Surgery in Children with Down Syndrome (TOPS-OS)

The purpose of this study is to test how well personalized surgical treatment helps children with Down syndrome (DS) who have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).  

Who can participate in this study?  

Children with Down syndrome may participate if they: 

  • Are between 2 and 17 years old 
  • Have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA

Who cannot participate in this study?

  • Anyone who has had a previous partial or total tonsillectomy

What activities are involved in this study? 

Participants in this study will: 

  • Complete a sleep study to determine eligibility and another sleep study 6 months after surgery  
  • Either standard removal of tonsils and adenoids or a personalized surgical treatment
  • Attend clinic visits before and after surgery, which include completing questionnaires and online check­ins
