CareFit: Exercise Program Full of Movement, Music and Aging Support

The CareFit study is looking for adults with Down syndrome 35 and older and their primary caregivers to help us learn how a supportive caregiver training class and virtual group exercise classes can help older people with Down syndrome and their caregivers.

Who can participate in this study?

  • Individuals with a diagnosis of Down syndrome 35 and older who can participate in physical activity
  • Caregivers 18 and older who participate in physical activity
  • Individuals with Down syndrome and their caregivers must enroll together

Who cannot participate in this study?

  • Individuals who are unable to participate in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity 
  • Individuals who have cardiovascular, metabolic or renal disease and/or signs or symptoms and are unable to receive medical clearance for participation

Where does this study take place?

Virtual 

What activities are involved in this study? 

  • Participants will complete questions and/or assessments of their physical fitness and quality of life before and after the study. 
  • During the study, the participant (caregiver optional) will attend a 12-week online exercise program full of music, dancing and movement designed for older adults with Down syndrome to stay active and have fun! 
  • Caregivers will attend weekly 40-minute online group trainings with helpful tips and support to care for someone with Down syndrome and Alzheimer's disease.
