Brain Health Research for Adults with Down Syndrome

The Brain Health Research for Adults with Down Syndrome study is a phase 1 clinical trial that will evaluate the safety and tolerability of a study drug, nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), given at different doses in adults with Down syndrome. 

Who can participate?

  • Adults 18 or older with Down syndrome
  • Have a caregiver with at least 10 hours of weekly contact
  • Able to give consent (or have a legal representative)
  • Must be able to walk (ambulatory)

Who cannot participate?

Individuals cannot join if they have recently taken certain medicines, have certain health conditions, or have undergone specific medical treatments. Contact Elizabeth Oey at researchdownsyndrome@MGH.HARVARD.EDU for additional eligibility requirements.

What activities are involved in this study?

  • Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) or placebo tablets daily for 28 days
  • Health checks, blood and urine tests
  • A specialized brain MRI
  • Simple physical function tests

12 weeks
