Workshop to Help Reduce Stress for Caregivers: CarePRO Virtual-DS/ID

Family caregivers of adults living with Down syndrome or another intellectual disability who are experiencing memory changes are invited to participate in CarePRO Virtual-DS/ID, a free 5-week online workshop designed to reduce distress and improve quality of life.

Who can participate in this study?  

  • Family caregivers of adults with Down syndrome or another intellectual disability who are developing memory changes as they age can participate in the workshop.
  • Participants must be the primary caregiver or the person most responsible for care decisions if their family member with Down syndrome is living in a residential facility.

Who cannot participate in this study?

Individuals unable to join virtually.

Where does this study take place?

Virtually

What activities are involved in this study?

  • 5 online group sessions (2.5 hours each)
  • 5 individual coaching sessions (30 minutes each)
  • 2 brief, confidential interviews at the beginning and end of the program
    • Questions ask about your background, mood and quality of life

Participants in this study will:

  • Learn more about dementia in individuals with DS-ID
  • Learn how to manage stress, distress, and concerns
  • Learn how to communicate with your loved ones and others
  • Learn how to stay engaged and plan for the future

What is the expected time commitment of this study?

Over the entire study, the total expected duration of participation across 9 weeks is about
17 hours.
