Studying How Diet and Weight Affect Alzheimer’s Risk

The Brain Outcomes and Lifestyle in Down syndrome (BOLD) study aims to understand how dietary changes and weight impact the risk of Alzheimer’s disease in adults with Down syndrome.

Who can participate in this study?

Adults with Down syndrome ages 18 to 64 who: 

  • Have a BMI 25 to 50kg/m2
  • Can communicate through spoken language
  • Have a caregiver who is willing to attend study visits
  • Willing to travel to Kansas City for assessments 

Who cannot participate in this study?

Contact research team for additional eligibility requirements. 

Where does this study take place?

KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS with remote education sessions

What activities are involved in this study?

  • Health education sessions remotely on an iPad every month
  • Outcome assessments in-person every six months, including a blood draw, cognitive testing, anthropometric measurements, MRI, and dietary intake assessment

What is the expected time commitment of this study?

12 months
