Studying How Diet and Weight Affect Alzheimer's Risk

The Brain Outcomes and Lifestyle in Down syndrome (BOLD) study aims to understand how dietary changes and weight impact the risk of Alzheimer's disease in adults with Down syndrome. 

Who can participate?

Adults with Down syndrome ages 18 to 64 who:

  • Have a BMI 25 to 50kg/m2
  • Can communicate through spoken language
  • Have a caregiver who is willing to attend study visits
  • Willing to travel to Kansas City for assessments

Where does the study take place?

KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS with remote education sessions

What can I expect to happen in this study?

  • Health education sessions remotely on an iPad every month 
  • Outcome assessments in-person every six months, including a blood draw, cognitive testing, anthropometric measurements, MRI and dietary intake assessment

How long am I part of the study?

12 months
