Now Enrolling-Alzheimer's Disease Down Syndrome Study for Future Clinical Trials

Trial Ready Cohort - Down Syndrome

The Alzheimer’s Clinical Trials Consortium-Down SyndromeExternal Web Site Policy(ACTC-DS) invites you to participate in the Trial-Ready Cohort- Down SyndromeExternal Web Site Policy(TRC-DS). TRC-DS is a community of potential clinical trial volunteers who could help find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. TRC-DS routinely monitors study participants for any changes to their brain health or function over time through blood tests and brain imaging to eventually match them with applicable AD clinical trials. Because participants are routinely evaluated, researchers can fast-track them for enrollment into qualifying clinical trials as soon as they are eligible. This study is in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Biomarkers Consortium – Down SyndromeExternal Web Site Policy(ABC-DS).

The purpose of TRC-DS is to enroll healthy adults with DS across 15 international sites to determine longitudinal cognitive, clinical and biomarker trajectories in the persons with DS and to accelerate enrollment into clinical trials. People with DS helped researchers discover the genetic connection between chromosome 21, amyloid and AD almost 40 years ago. Now, researchers want to bring the latest therapies to people with DS. Recent studies indicate that as many as 8 in 10 people with DS develop AD.

Researchers are looking for people who meet the following criteria:

  • Diagnosis of Down syndrome
  • Interested in participating in future clinical trials to prevent AD in DS
  • Male or female, aged 35-55 years
  • In good general health; with no diagnosis of dementia
  • Adequate visual and auditory acuity to allow neuropsychological testing
  • IQ greater than 40
  • Must speak English or Spanish fluently (for select sites only)
  • Must have a reliable Study Partner (may be caregiver, sibling, parent) who can provide correct information about the participant’s clinical symptoms and history
