Mapping the Interactions of Language and Early motor Skills in Down Syndrome (MILES Study)

The MILES study team is interested in studying the early development of language and motor skills in children with and without Down Syndrome.

Who can participate in this study?

  • Infants ages 6 to 30 months with or without Down Syndrome
  • Parent must speak English or Spanish
  • Infant and parent must live in Texas

Where does this study take place?

Visits can take place at the Texas Center for Disability Studies, 2901 Read Granberry Trail, Austin, TX78759, or in the family's home.

What activities are involved in this study?

  • Three research visits (max of two hours each) over a one-year period
  • Parents will complete questionnaires about their child’s development
  • Language and motor assessments will be performed
  • Children will wear small devices for seven days to monitor physical activity and language

What is the expected time commitment of this study?

Three testing visits will take place. Each testing visit will include an in-person session that will take about two hours and a home activity session that will take about 12 hours/day for four days. Each testingvisit will take place about 6 months apart.
