Modulation of the Immune System in Down Syndrome for Improved Outcomes and Neurodevelopment-1 Study (MISSION-1) will evaluate a six-month treatment of a medicine called tofacitinib (or XELJANZ®) to see if it can improve the health of individuals with Down syndrome.
Who can participate in this study?
- Individuals with Down syndrome ages 6 to 22 years old
- Weigh at least 22 pounds
- Participants must have a caregiver or support person who can help with study tasks as needed
Who cannot participate in this study?
Individuals cannot join if they have recently taken certain medicines, have certain health conditions, or have undergone specific medical treatments. Contact research team for additional eligibility requirements.
Where does this study take place?
Clinical activities and study visits will take place at facilities located at the University of Colorado Anschutz campus in Denver, CO.
What activities are involved in this study?
- All enrolled participants will receive the medication or placebo for six months
- All participants will attend visits in Denver, CO
- Participants who receive the placebo may qualify to receive the medication after completing initial visits

Six to 12 months
